Kit Used: Back To The Future Trilogy Set by AMT/ERTL

A few months ago when messing around in the Sci-Fi section of eBay's model kits, I happened to see a big white box listed that simply said "AMT/ERTL Back To The Future Trilogy Set" so I grabbed it up with Buy It Now. It sat in my closet for a while, but I was suddenly in the mood to build it. It was harder than I expected, lots of tiny painted on details, but it came out fairly well.

The ironic thing though is I'm pretty sure this is just a repackaging of the Aoshima kits. I know they made a BTTF 2 flying delorean and one like this, and after seeing some listed on eBay the parts trees are the same, and on the back of the decal sheet for this one it actually said Aoshima. Either way though, I got all three kits for pretty good price, but other than the seller I bought this from and ONE person talking about theirs on their own blog, I've not seen or heard of this set before.. hmm.. I think it might have been some kinda special promotional thing. Part of me even wanted to freehand it and make the wooden crate/tires that sat on the back between the train and the delorean at the end of the movie.. I might still do that.

Yeh that lookes exactly like the Aoshima one i built! Atleast your instructions were in English. Since everything on mine was in Japanese, i had too watch the 3rd movie again and look at some pics online to get the colors right.
Other that, i think its a good kit.
You did a nice job! :D

Thanks. I looked around online for picture references for the colors though, because even though it was English I KNEW some of the colors were wrong, but not that many, so I don't know if the colors listed in the instructions might have been bad translations or my paints just aren't the "right ones" for AMT's instructions. Like the interior and ends of the wraparound rail things said "blue" but it was a lot closer to gray in pictures so I ended up going with blue gray, or something like that :XD:

Thats true, I have a hard time trusting the color directions in instructions

Aww I am soooo jealous!!!! I want one!! Yes I'm a BTTF fan. :) Although sadly I don't have the proper paints to do the job so I'll just head over to the BTTF website and buy myself the diecast model... once I have money to spend. XP

haha, apparently the set is pretty rare, but who knows. If you're like me, the diecast would look a lot better anyway :XD: Probably be cheaper too by the time you added up the cost of paint and glue and all that stuff.

This isn't the only one I'm looking for to add to my collection. :)

Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and Ecto-1A

Knight Rider KITT

I think those are the only ones I'm after.

the Ghostbusters cars are definitely more rare than the BTTF ones. I did a quick google search and even diecast ones are going for like $150+, and I know they made a model but I think it's even rarer. I've seen snap together ones go for pretty cheap (but if its like the snap BTTF car I bought one time, it wasn't very good for a "beginner" builder like it said) Seems like KITTs are as rare/expensive too. I guess that happens with old 80's things like that. ^^;
